Lincoln Day Dinner
Meade County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner will have a new look
for 2008. Due to the success of past events it
has
become necessary to change our location to where we have
sufficient room. This years Lincoln Day Dinner will be held at
the Sturgis City Auditorium on Legendary Main Street Sturgis SD,
Saturday March 29th beginning at 5:00 pm. A dinner of steak tips
begins at 6:30 followed by introductions and short speeches by
announced candidates. Silent auction items will be available for
inspection beginning at 5:00 pm.
Now that we have more room, we want to offer something in
addition to the usual meet & greet setting. In an effort to
focus attention on our Republican candidates and office holders,
with each $150 program ad, you will be offered a “Candidate
Table” to decorate with your banners, literature, and
volunteers. It is our vision that these Candidate tables
(28”-72”) will provide a visible focal point for you to gather
support and reach the grass root constituents that are the real
base of support.
Each attendee will receive a program with your 5 x 8 ad at their
table and have the opportunity to see you at your Candidate
Table. All Republican State and Meade County elected officials
will be introduced. Announced candidates for the primary
election will have the opportunity for short speeches. Length of
speeches will be determined by the number of candidates present
and state or National office seekers given more time but not to
exceed 5 minutes.
To reserve your Candidate Table and to place your program ad
please contact Patty Hammock Meade Co. Republican Treasurer at
605-347-2196 or email her at phammock@lazyhent.com
Our deadline for the program ad is March 15th with payment of
$150 to be made when placing your ad, Dinner tickets will be
purchased separately at a cost of $25 per ticket. For more
information or questions please contact Patty at the numbers or
email above. Also check our Meade County Republican web site at

South Dakota Republican Senate Race
Elections for the United States Senate will be held on November
4, 2008, The current composition of the Senate, going into the
2008 election, consists of 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats, and two
independents. In South Dakota, Senator Tim Johnson's seat could
be a top GOP target in 2008, considering Johnson's narrow
524-vote victory in 2002 over then-Congressman and current U.S.
Senator John Thune, as well as his recent health problems.
Johnson underwent surgery in December 2006 for a Cerebral
arteriovenous malformation and was discharged from the hospital
on April 30, 2007. On October 19, Johnson formally announced
that he is seeking re-election.[54] According to a November 2006
SurveyUSA poll, Johnson has an approval rating of 70%, with just
26% disapproving of his performance,[55] making him an early
favorite despite the state's Republican leaning.
